Salmonella

Once it gets in there, salmonella bacteria can cause illness in cattle in two to five days. More than one serotype exists. The two most important ones for cattle will cause fever, diarrhea, and premature death. The bacteria are highly contagious. Testing is therefore a must.

Demonstrating antibodies with ELISA technique

Lavetan test using the ELISA technique. With this, we demonstrate the presence of antibodies found in serum and milk samples. Animals that have antibodies have been in contact with the bacteria within the last 6 months, and therefore it would be best to exclude them from a veterinary examination prior to sale.
