Hormones in Food

Hormones naturally play a role in animal-based food products. However, growth hormones are also given to livestock and are detectible in the final product. The most famous steroid is testosterone, which, for example, can be detected in raw meat. Even cow’s milk contains low levels of sexual hormones, for example progesterone.

At TeLA GmbH, various groups of hormones are analyzed. That includes androgens, progestagens, estrogens, and stilbenes.

Vitamins in Dietary Supplements

Vitamins are essential substances that are absorbed as part of one’s diet. In cases of vitamin deficiency, dietary supplements can be put to good use. There is a wide variety of vitamins that have different functions in the body and should be consumed in different amounts. In order to supplement the diet as well as possible, it is important to determine the vitamin content. They are differentiated between fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins.

TeLA GmbH has been active in the field of vitamin analysis for many years and has gained a lot of experience and expertise with regards to various dietary supplements. We will also gladly provide you with individual solutions.

Microcystins in Dietary Supplements

Microcystins are formed by cyanobacteria. After the bacteria dies, the toxins are released into the environment, especially waterbodies. Microcystins have gained a particular level of significance because algae are now marketed in the form of pills, capsules, or powders, and these products (e.g., spirulina) are becoming ever more popular among consumers. At TeLA, we can verify the different structural variants by means of HPLC-MS/MS.

CBD Analysis in Food and Dietary Supplements

TeLA GmbH is set up to analyze this in a variety of matrices and provides very sensitive analysis of THC, THC-A, CBD, CBD-A, CBN, and CBG. Of course, all of the analyses we offer are accredited and adapted to the corresponding matrix.

Algal Toxins

Algal toxins are among the most poisonous biogenic substances that we know. They are produced by certain microalgae called dinoflagellates. These organisms, however, represent a source of nutrients for mussels, snails, and crustaceans. That’s how algal toxins can end up in the human body. In order to prevent algal toxin poisoning, it is essential to continuously monitor the mussel beds in Europe.
