Stricter maximum levels for T-2 and HT-2 mycotoxins

From July 1, 2024, a new European regulation, Regulation (EU) 2024/1038 will apply in addition to the contaminants regulation (EU) 2023/915 It sets stricter maximum levels for T-2 and HT-2 mycotoxins in products such as raw grains, cereals and bakery products. These toxins, produced by certain mold species, are a risk to public health, especially for sensitive groups such as children.

Based on research and advice from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), it is clear that while current exposure levels are generally safe, lowering these levels is essential for further risk reduction. This has led to the setting of new limits as part of an update to Regulation (EU) 2023/915.

These new regulations require close monitoring and compliance with the established limits for these mycotoxins. In addition, a transition period has been established for products produced before the effective date, which remain permitted until their minimum shelf life.
