Asbestos in play sand and craft sand?

Reports of possible asbestos findings in colored play sand, craft sand, and modeling sand are currently causing uncertainty. Individual international studies have detected asbestos fibers in colored sand products.
The GBA Group offers professional asbestos analysis of play sand in accordance with recognized standard procedures:
- BIA 7487
- VDI 3866 Sheet 5, Appendix B
Approximately 1 gram of sample material is sufficient for testing in our specialized laboratories.
Procedure in case of suspicion
- As a precaution, do not continue to use suspicious products
- If there is a risk of contamination of the environment due to previous use: Have the material analyzed
- If laboratory testing confirms the suspicion of asbestos, an expert with experience in asbestos should be consulted to determine whether and how the site of use needs to be decontaminated.
